'Alien vs. Predator' is a matchup that we (the audience) are bound to lose

"Alien vs. Predator" has taken in $63.1 million in two weeks and, like so many important movies, this one opened in first place and quickly dropped until it trailed inferior products like "The Princess Diaries."

Naturally any movie featuring Julie Andrews as Julie Andrews is bound to do well. But the thought of such silliness finishing ahead of the Alien/Predator match is a case of a species fiddling while home planet burns. Go ahead, enjoy watching the devil possess another kid in the week's numero uno, "Exorcist: The Beginning" while space invaders prepare to turn us into sushi.

In my mind, now is the time -- as Bob Costas might say -- to "get real" on the really big issue facing this ...
