Investigators were examining leads in the case of an inmate who
escaped from the Cook County jail earlier this week, but no arrests
had been made by late Wednesday.
"We've had a couple of leads we are following, but there's no
information we can share with the public at this time that wouldn't
jeopardize the investigation," said Bill Cunningham, a spokesman for
the Cook County sheriff's office.
Randy Rencher, wearing a stolen correctional officer's uniform,
escaped from the jail Monday and is suspected of robbing a bank in
the Loop later that day, authorities said.
Cunningham said it's still not clear whether corrections officers
at the jail's exit asked Rencher for his identification before ...
