At Franklin's Barber Shop in Chatham, customers didn't just get
trims, cuts and shaves.
Thanks to the shop's owner, Willie Franklin Sr., clients were also
treated to life lessons, words of encouragement and humorous stories
when they sat in his chair.
In his more than 60 years as a barber, Mr. Franklin was known
among friends as a mentor and father figure who believed strongly in
education.
"He uplifted everyone around him," said Mr. Franklin's daughter-
in-law Joyce Franklin. "He was a great philosopher in the
barbershop."
Joyce Franklin, who is also in the barbering business, said Mr.
Franklin was an artist when it came to selecting the right styles for
every customer.
