At twentysomething, even the quickest glance in the mirror
revealed scalp shining through. And over the years, thinning hair
revealed more scalp -- at the part, the crown, everywhere.
The anxiety was unending.
It's a man's great fear realized.
But the fear magnifies for a woman.
"I remember sitting in the salon, looking in the mirror, and
saying I could see right through to my scalp," said Linda, now 47.
The stylist said, "No, no you can't," she recalled. "But I could.
When my hair was wet and the light was shinning down on me, I could
see my scalp. It was heartbreaking."
