Random thoughts while wondering why the White Sox and Red Sox originally had a day off on Labor Day in the first place:

*Other than lacking pinpoint control and the velocity his pitches once had, Boston right-hander Curt Schilling looked good Monday at Fenway Park. OK, more to White Sox hitters than to Red Sox fans.

*If jet lag didn't hurt the White Sox in Boston against the AL East leaders, it certainly shouldn't be a problem at home against AL Central cellar-dweller Kansas City. Unless the commissioner announces victories against teams that are more than 40 games behind in their division do not count.

*Given their performance Monday against the Cardinals, about the best the ...
