LAS VEGAS -- Steve Wynn dreams big.
Twenty-five years ago, the hotel/casino mogul dreamed of a casino
exotic and beautiful, the likes of which this town had never seen.
The dream became the Mirage, an oasis of palm trees and volcanoes and
lavish rooms and a multimillion-dollar production show with rare
white beasts, all situated in the heart of the famed Las Vegas Strip.
A decade later, Wynn remembered fondly a picturesque town on
Italy's Lake Como he had visited often, a quaint lakeside resort town
brimming with Tuscan-inspired villas and terra-cotta rooftops. His
heart's desire would manifest itself as the Bellagio, still the most
beautiful of all of Las Vegas' grand casinos.
