There is some doubt that the United Nation's is really doing the
job it was intended to do.
As the battles in Iraq transcend into political wrangling between
various Iraqi parties, and the rebuilding of Iraq by the coalition a
serious historical (and political) question remains: Has the United
Nations outlived its usefulness as an organization that prevents war
and genocide? Has the fall of the Soviet Union and the bi-polar cold
world ended any relevance the United Nations might have had? Has the
United Nations turned into a glorified debating society in which
nations rhetorically espouse humanitarian goals but in reality
promote realpolitik?
