Article: School districts may be forced to pay $6.2M

The state may have overpaid school districts during a three-year period, an audit shows.

CHEYENNE - School districts across the state were over-funded by an estimated $6.2 million over a three-year period, a state audit shows.

With 39 of the 48 district reports finalized, the preliminary results of the audit were presented to the Joint Education Interim Committee on Monday.

The purpose of the audit was to ensure the accuracy of information being provided by school districts to the Department of Education for the purpose of determining their level of grant funding from the state's School Foundation Program.
