As Coach Mike Benson watched his Stone Bridge girls' basketball
team warm up for its Dulles District regular-season finale against
Broad Run on Thursday night, he was stoic and not about to accept
praise for a job well done.
Congratulations were certainly in order, even before the game. The
Bulldogs, 3-18 three seasons ago, were within reach of the school
record for victories (19) before tip-off.
But Benson shook his head and pointed to the few championship
banners hung on the south wall of the gymnasium of the four-year-old
school.
"What I tell the girls is you're not judged on how many games you
win," Benson said, "but [by] how many championships you win."
