Nigerian gov't urged to deal with water pollution in Niger Delta

LAGOS, April 24 (Xinhua) -- The Nigerian government has been urged to declare the oil-rich Niger Delta a disaster zone and deploy an emergency water supply network immediately to the water- polluted area, local newspaper The Guardian reported Sunday.

The newspaper quoted the Environmental Rights Action/ Friends of the Earth (ERA) as saying that a recent research conducted in the oil- rich region confirmed the presence of carcinogens in water samples taken from across the Niger Delta.
