Sunni Arabs win 25 seats on Iraqi constitutional committee

BAGHDAD, June 9 (Xinhua) -- Iraqi President Jalal Talabani announced Thursday that the Sunni Arabs have gained 25 seats on the constitutional committee a day after Sunnis threatened to boycott drawing up permanent constitution for the country.

"We have decided to add 25 Sunni members in the constitutional drafting committee with full rights like other members who were elected by the parliament," Talabani told reporters as he received the visiting top-level delegation of European Union.

The move will expand the committee to 80.
