Impending strike by Kenya's national carrier employees called off

NAIROBI, April 19 (Xinhua) -- Kenyan authorities on Tuesday averted a looming strike by some 1,200 workers of Kenya's national carrier, the Kenya Airways.

The Group Managing Director of Kenya Airways, Titus Naikuni, said the airline was in a "dilemma" over the demands by a workers' union seeking recognition from the management to represent its workers after the union gave a 48-hour strike ultimatum.

But the Kenya Aviation and Allied Workers Union (KAAWU) Secretary- General, Jimi Masege, called off the strike after consultations with senior government officials which led to an agreement on outstanding issues.
