JERUSALEM, June 21 (Xinhua) -- At least five people were killed and some 100 others injured when a passenger train collided with a truck in central Israel on Tuesday, Israel Radio reported.

The tragedy occurred when a train traveling from the coastal city of Tel Aviv to the southern town of Beersheba collided with a truck that had apparently broken down on the tracks, the report said.

The number of casualties was likely to rise as two train cars derailed and were completely crushed and many passengers were buried under the cars, said the report.
