UN mission in DRC hails Rwandan Hutu rebel's disarmament announcement

KINSHASA, March 31 (Xinhua) -- The UN mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), MONUC, on Thursday welcomed an announcement by a Rwandan Hutu rebel group to disarm and abandon fighting against the Rwandan government.

MONUC officials hailed the Hutu rebel group, the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR) now hiding in eastern DRC, for its decision to disarm, saying it's a breakthrough in unraveling a decade-long impasse in the troubled Great Lakes region of central Africa.
