SHANGHAI, April 30 (Xinhua) -- Chinese table tennis players launched their attack at another title-sweep as the five-event individual world championships opened here on Saturday.

Wu Bangguo, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Chinese National People's Congress, declared open the tournament that runs through May 6 in the super-modern and sports-crazy Chinese city.

A total of 574 players from 140 countries and regions, both a record for the world championships, will compete in the sport's showcase event.
