Philippine health secretary joins others in quitting government

MANILA, May 10 (Xinhua) -- Philippine Health Secretary Manuel Dayrit on Tuesday confirmed reports that he has presented his resignation to President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, joining two other ministers who quit the government recently.

The announcement of the key cabinet minister came one day after the spokesman of the president dismissed the reports as mere speculation.

During a press conference held at the Department of Health in Manila, Dayrit said he will stay as health secretary until May 30, 2005, based on a resignation letter submitted to President Arroyo.
