Israel's first Olympic gold medal stolen

JERUSALEM, June 7 (Xinhua) -- Israel's first Olympic gold medal, won by windsurfer Gal Friedman in the 2004 Summer Olympics, was stolen by thieves during a break-in at his home on Tuesday, local newspaper Jerusalem Post reported.

The medal was among the contents of a wall safe stolen during the burglary. Also taken were the bronze medal Friedman won at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games as well as other family valuables.

Police are set to investigate the incident.
