China to build more hydroelectric power plants

BEIJING, August 10 (Xinhua) -- China will develop more hydroelectric-power-plant projects to reduce the proportion of thermal power generation, the State Development and Reform Commission (SDRC) said Wednesday.

Zhang Guobao, vice-minister of SDRC, said in 2005 China Electric Power Forum that the installed capacity of hydro-electric generators will reach 165 million kilowatts in five years, and 246 million kilowatts in fifteen years, 23.7 percent and 25.9 percent of the total installed electricity generating capacity.
