United States win fifth straight World Cup berth

WASHINGTON, Sept. 3 (Xinhua) -- The United States defeated Mexico 2-0 in Ohio on Saturday, securing their fifth straight ticket to the World Cup finals and also becoming the first team from CONCACAF to Germany next year.

Steve Ralston and DaMarcus Beasley scored second-half goals five minutes apart as the Americans avenged their only loss in the final round of qualifying, a 2-1 defeat to the Mexicans on Easter Sunday.

The strikes in the 53rd and 58th minutes lifted the Americans into the 32-team tournament with three games to spare.
