China, Chinese Taipei reach women's volleyball world championship

NINGBO, Zhejiang Province, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- Olympic and World Cup champion China and Chinese Taipei booked their places in next year's women's volleyball world championship on Saturday after winning their respective Asian qualifying matches.

The Chinese crushed Uzbekistan in straight sets (25-7, 25-18, 25- 9), while Chinese Taipei edged Australia 3-1 (25-15, 24-26, 25-18, 26- 24) in a do-or-die game.

China and Chinese Taipei are tied for first place in Group A of the Asian qualifying tournament with 3-0 win-loss record. The two teams will square off on Sunday to decide the winner of the group.
