Russian FM warns against haste in UN security council reform

MOSCOW, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) -- Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Monday warned against haste in reforming the UN Security Council, fearing the rush could split the world body.

"It's not worthwhile hurrying to put the draft resolution (on UN reform) to voting, which will split the organization, even if it is approved by a majority," Lavrov was quoted as saying by the Itar- Tass news agency.

Negotiations on the reform are being dragged on amid two conflicting views, with one of them calling for increasing permanent seats on the Security Council and the other standing against it.
