Annual Halloween parade in New York features New Orleans feel

NEW YORK, Oct. 31 (Xinhua) -- New Yorkers started their 32nd annual Village Halloween parade Monday evening on a solemn note and styled the parade on hurricane-battered New Orleans' traditional jazz funerals.

Glen Hall, a 10-year-old trumpet player who lost his home in Hurricane Katrina, served as grand marshal, with Katrina victims dancing around a coffin that symbolizes their city, and the loved ones they lost.

There was also a phoenix rising from the ashes, the same symbol used in the parade after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
