Hong Kong bans poultry imports in face of bird flu

HONG KONG, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- The government of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Monday banned poultry imports from China's Inner Mongolia and Canada's British Columbia as a precaution against bird flu outbreaks confirmed in the two places.

The government has suspended the processing of applications for the importation of poultry and poultry meat from the entire Inner Mongolia with immediate effect, a spokesman for the Health, Welfare and Food Bureau announced on Monday night.
