Russia to keep permanent military presence in Moldova: FM
BUCHAREST, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- Russia will maintain its permanent
military presence in the trans-Dnestr region, a breakaway Russian-
speaking republic in eastern Moldova, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei
Lavrov said Tuesday.
Currently, there are 500 Russian peacekeeping troops and another
1,000 Russian military servicemen permanently deployed to guard
ammunition deposit places in the eastern trans-Dnestr region, the
Rompres news agency cited Lavrov as saying at a meeting with his
Romanian counterpart, Mihai-Razvan Ungureanu.
