The soft drinks sector toiled in last year's poor summer weather, but AG Barr, maker of Irn Bru, bucked the trend, according to preliminary results, posting a 27.4 per cent rise in pre-tax profits to 20.8m. Analysts were lining up to recommend the stock.

The firm is in a good position for 2008 and reckons the benefits of an efficiency drive were not fully represented in the numbers.
