Baseball can be a cruel game.

Tony Gwynn Jr. finally gets his big chance to prove he should be an everyday player in the big leagues and he injures his left hamstring. Talking to the Milwaukee Brewers' young centerfielder Friday before the home opener, it was impossible not to detect the disappointment in his voice.

"It's really irritating, obviously," said Gwynn, who was expected to get most of the playing time in center in April with Mike Cameron serving a 25-game suspension. "I'm trying to keep a positive mind- set about it.

"Hopefully, every day it will get better and I won't be out too long."
