Chinese Taipei beat Japan 60-55 to win men's basketball title (updated)

MACAO, Nov. 6 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Taipei beat Japan 60-55 to win the men's basketball final in the East Asian Games (EAG) here on Sunday.

The silver medalist in 2001, boosted by the thundering applause and cheers from the audience, subdued Japan 16-6 in the second quarter and made it 32-22 before the break.

Japan, who knocked out Asian champion China 68-60 in Saturday's semi-finals, cut their deficit to five points late in the fourth quarter, but that was the closest they could go as Chinese Taipei made five of seven free throws to seal the victory.
