France stresses no military presence in Iraq after hostage death threat

PARIS, Dec. 29 (Xinhua) -- France stressed Thursday its no military presence in Iraq one day after the kidnappers of the French hostage Bernard Planche threatened to execute him unless Paris ended its "illegitimate presence" there.

"I stress that France has no military presence in Iraq and that it has always argued for full sovereignty to be restored to the country," French Foreign Minister Philippe Douste-Blazy said in a statement.
