Malawi Vice President challenges his sacking

LILONGWE, Feb. 10, (Xinhua) -- Malawi's embattled Vice President Cassim Chilumpha categorically declared on Friday that he is still holding the office one day after President Bingu wa Mutharika technically "sacked" him.

"As far as I am concerned I am still the elected vice president of this Republic of Malawi..I have not communicated to anyone including the president indicating my intention to resign as purported by the president," Chilumpha told journalists at the entrance of his official residence in the commercial capital Blantyre.
