Nigeria links bird flu source to illegal poultry imports
LAGOS, March 6 (Xinhua) -- The Nigerian government has blamed
illegal imports of poultry for the deadly bird flu outbreak, an
official statement obtained Monday said, citing reports from security
agencies.
The deadly H5N1 virus has spread to eight of the 36 states and the
capital Abuja and investigation indicated that 90 percent of infected
farms bought chicks from a farm in the northern state of Kano, said
the statement signed by Information Minister Frank Nweke.
