U.S. rates on 30-year mortgages decline to 6.34 percent

WASHINGTON, March 16 (Xinhua) -- Rates on 30-year mortgages across the United States declined slightly this week after having jumped to the highest level in more than two years the previous week, Freddie Mac reported Thursday.

According to the mortgage company's nationwide survey, rates on 30- year, fixed-rate mortgages averaged 6.34 percent in the week ending March 16, the second highest point since mid-November.

This week's rate was down slightly from 6.37 percent last week, the highest level since 30-year mortgages averaged 6.44 percent the week of Sept. 5, 2003.
