Nigerian militants say 3 soldiers killed in oil-rich Niger delta

LAGOS, March 25 (Xinhua) -- Nigerian militants holding three foreign oil workers said on Saturday they killed three soldiers in an encounter with government troops in the southern oil-rich Niger Delta.

"We wish to confirm an incident involving a patrol boat of the Nigerian army and one of our patrols in Soku area on Thursday, March 23, 2006. We confirm that three soldiers were killed in this encounter," the ethnic Ijaw militants said in an email statement.
