Kenya's flower firms relocate to Ethiopia

ADDIS ABABA, Feb. 22 (Xinhua) -- High production costs and insecurity are forcing firms in Kenya's flower sector to relocate to neighboring Ethiopia, Nairobi-based The East African newspaper reported Wednesday.

According to a report posted on the paper's website, already, five investors have acquired farms and started the groundwork to set up operations in Ethiopia.

Erastus Mureithi, chairman of Kenya Flower Council, was quoted as saying that flower exporters have complained for too long about rising production costs, which are at an all time high now because of spiraling fuel costs, a strong shilling and insecurity.
