Iraqi interior minister plans to dissolve militias
BAGHDAD, March 4 (Xinhua) -- Iraqi Interior Minister Bayan Jabr
Solagh said Saturday that the Iraqi government is implementing a plan
to dissolve militias.
"I have sent a letter to all militias, ordering them to dissolve
themselves," Solagh told reporters in a news conference.
He said that negotiations with different militias were under way
to implement the plan.
"There is no reason to be afraid of militias," asserted Solagh as
he rejected charges that these militias are blamed for the sectarian
violence following the Feb. 22 bombing of one of the most revered
Shiite shrine in Samarra, some 120 km north of Baghdad.
