Nigeria could lose 1 billion dollars to Niger Delta crisis this year: minister

LAGOS, March 7 (Xinhua) -- Nigerian Minister of State for Defense Rowland Oritsejafor said on Tuesday Nigeria is losing over 19.2 million U.S. dollars daily due to the activities of militants in the oil-producing Niger Delta.

If the trend of disturbing production continued in the area, " the country might lose about one billion dollars in a year," he told House of Representatives Committee on Defense in the capital Abuja.

Oritsejafor said the situation in the Niger Delta had great implication on the global economy as the militants were perpetrating
