ECOWAS calls for peaceful resolution to Niger Delta crisis

ABUJA, May 10 (Xinhua) -- The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) here on Wednesday called for a "peaceful negotiation" toward peace in Nigeria's oil-rich Niger Delta region.

The area has recently witnessed a lot of disquiet as militants take up arms to protest what they see as the neglect of the oil producing area by successive administrations.

Negotiations toward resolving the grievances have not yielded much as the youth have continued to take oil companies' expatriate workers as hostages.
