Philippine gov't accepts Supreme Court ruling against executive order

MANILA, April 20 (Xinhua) -- The Philippine government said on Thursday that it will abide by the Supreme Court ruling, which declared unconstitutional an executive order of the Arroyo administration preventing officials from attending anti-president legislative inquiries.

Presidential Chief of Staff Michael Defensor said that officials from the executive branch would now have to attend congressional inquiries and hearings, but at their own discretion.

Meanwhile, Defensor said that Solicitor General Eduardo Antonio Nachura will work for an appeal to reverse the ruling against the executive order.
