Cote d'Ivoire militia groups set conditions for disarmament: reports

ABIDJAN, July 16 (Xinhua) -- Militia fighters in the western Cote d'Ivoire agreed on Sunday to lay down weapons on conditions that their financial and security demands be met by the government.

According to their demands, the government should not only provide financial compensation and technological support for disarmament, but also guarantee the safety of the fighters and their family. Otherwise they would never take part in the peace program proposed by the government, a spokesman for the militia groups told the press on Sunday.
