Lebanese troops start deployment in southern Lebanon

BEIRUT, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) -- Lebanese troops started to deploy in south Lebanon from early Thursday under a UN resolution which ended the Israel-Hezbollah conflict, local Future television reported.

Lebanese Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Elias Murr said that the first batch of around 1,500 Lebanese soldiers would be deployed in the country's south, according to the TV report.

Eight regiments were sent earlier to deploy in the areas south of Lebanon's strategic Litani River, about 30 km from the border with Israel, according to the report.
