African leaders urged to develop education sector

ABUJA, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- The 4th African Convention of Principals ended here on Tuesday with a call on African leaders to show more commitment to the funding of education in their countries.

According to a communique issued at the end of the conference, the conference also urged African leaders to ensure free and compulsory basic education up to secondary school level for every child.

Attended by more than 1,480 principals, the conference also called for the provision of adequate infrastructure and instructional materials in all African schools for the teaching and learning of Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
