UN council to vote on draft resolution over Middle East

UNITED NATIONS, July 12 (Xinhua) -- Qatar presented formally to the UN Security Council a draft resolution on the Middle East on Wednesday, and pressed for a vote on Thursday.

The council members held closed consultation on the draft resolution Wednesday morning. According to a UN diplomat, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, Qatar decided to press the council for a vote despite obvious objection from the United States.

Compared to the first version of the draft resolution, which was circulated last Thursday, the language of the latest text has been notably softened.
