Militia groups disarmament process starts in western Cote d'Ivoire

ABIDJAN, July 27 (Xinhua) -- The long-delayed militia disarmament in western Cote d'Ivoire finally got under way on Wednesday, Jean- Luc Stalon, head of a UN mission in the western African country (ONUCI), confirmed on Thursday.

Around 109 militiamen in the western town of Guiglo, a militia stronghold near the Liberian border, handed over weapons on Wednesday to government representatives, Stalon, head of the Division for Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR) of the ONUCI, told a weekly news briefing.
