Hunger crisis pushes down agriculture fair turnout in Malawi

LUSAKA, Aug. 3 (Xinhua) -- The hunger crisis haunting in Malawi since 2003 has pushed down the number of participants of the annual national agriculture fair, Nation Online of Malawi reported Thursday.

It quoted economist Sadwick Mtonakutha as saying that the number of participants started declining after the 2003 hunger crisis that left the farmers of the country with nothing to display.

During the first fair 64 companies participated, in the second fair the number dropped to 42. The number dropped further to 25 during the third fair and now only 24 participants have confirmed their participation in the fair scheduled to take ...
