Brazil's Lula widens lead by one percentage point: poll

BRASILIA, Aug. 18 (Xinhua) -- Brazil's incumbent President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has widened his lead by one percentage point from last week ahead of the country's Oct. 1 presidential race, a poll showed on Friday.

The survey by polling firm Ibope showed Lula with 47 percent in a first-round vote against 21 percent for main rival Geraldo Alckmin of the opposition Brazilian Social Democracy Party.
