Cambodia's child survival rate significantly improved: report

PHNOM PENH, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia has made significant improvements in child survival, total fertility and child health care in the past five years, according to an official report released on Thursday.

The preliminary findings of the 2005 Cambodia Demographic and Health Survey (CDHS) showed striking differences between the situation in 2000 and the situation today.

According to the report, the infant mortality rate dropped from 95 to 65 deaths per 1,000 births, and the mortality rate of the child under five is now 83 per 1,000 births compared with 124 in 2000.
