Nigerian gov't urged to stop military action in oil-rich Niger Delta

LAGOS, Dec. 26 (Xinhua) -- The Nigerian government on Tuesday was urged to adopt dialogue instead of military action in the Niger Delta to halt the incidence of hostage-taking in the oil- rich but troubled region.

Vincent Uloko, proprietor of an oil-servicing company, gave the advice when he was conferred with a chieftaincy title of Utonkon village, Ado local government area of Benue, in the oil city Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State. "It is now clear that military action will not produce the badly-needed peace in the area," he said.
