White House aide resigns over lobbying scandal

WASHINGTON, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) -- An aide to U.S. President George W. Bush's key political strategist Karl Rove resigned Friday following a congressional report last week that showed hundreds of contacts between the White House and former lobbyist Jack Abramoff.

Susan Ralston, a key aide to Rove, "did not want to be a distraction to the White House at such an important time and so we have accepted her resignation," said White House deputy press secretary Dana Perino.

"We support her decision and consider the matter closed," she said.
