High mortality rates among women, children worry Zambian gov't

LUSAKA, Oct.19 (Xinhua) -- A senior Zambian government official has expressed concerns over the high mortality rates among women and children in the country, saying the figures were "displeasing".

Newly-appointed Health Minister Angela Chifire said here on Thursday that the high mortality rates were not health to the country, especially as it tries to attain the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by 2015.
