Global meeting on electronic waste kicks off in Kenya

NAIROBI, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) -- About 600 delegates from 120 countries across the world on Monday kicked off a meeting to seek solutions to the world's rising tide of electronic wastes (e-waste) in Nairobi, Kenya.

"This week's meeting will address many issues not least the rising tide of electronic waste, but it would be impossible for me not to refer to the tragic events in Cote d'Ivoire," Achim Steiner, Executive Director of the UN Environment Program (UNEP), said at the opening of the eighth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Waste and their Disposal.
