Greece, Russia discuss defense cooperation

ATHENS, Dec. 6 (Xinhua) -- Greek Defense Minister Evangelos Meimarakis and his visiting Russian counterpart Sergei Ivanov held talks on Wednesday outlining specific proposals in arms procurement and signed a program for military cooperation in 2007.

Meimarakis said that the Russian side has approved the future sale to Greece of short- and medium-range missile systems and an amphibious armored combat vehicle.

Ivanov clarified that Russia respected Greek laws and that every contract will include stipulations on post-sale service and training of military personnel using the Russian system, as the Greek law now requires.
